CAR REVIEW - 2015 Ford Mustang GT Coupe
My Dad is a car guy. He always has been. He’s the one that got me watching Cup racing. He’s the one that taught me how to drive. And he’s the one that first introduced me to Mustang. I remember the day he pointed out the sexy fastback to me like it was yesterday. Like one creature imprints upon another for life in Twilight, Mustang imprinted upon me. The first brand new car I ever bought was a Mustang – an 88 LX convertible. I cried the day that I gave it up. Many years down the road I saw a 99 coupe for sale on the side of the road. I was on my way back from the cemetery where I’d visited my Grandma and just had to stop when I saw it. I dragged my Dad to check it out the next day. I decided I had to have it. It didn’t matter that I was recovering from lung surgery and had just lost my job. I had to have it. I drove it until I finally had to let it go last year. Once again I cried on the day I gave it up. Mustang is my great love. Every time I see one as I drive down the road I smile. Every single time.
CAR REVIEW - 2015 Ford Mustang GT Coupe
You cannot imagine how excited I was to be offered the opportunity to test drive the 2015 Ford Mustang GT Coupe. She arrived on a rainy morning. Even on a dismal, gray rainy day she was gorgeous and took my breath away. The modernized fastback seems smoother, sleeker and sexier than ever. The Mustang has always been rather low to the ground. The 2015 seemed even lower than I recalled, giving it an even sportier look.

I was really wanting to take it out but couldn’t leave the house yet. I got in and turned it on and just sat inside it for 15 minutes, just listening. There is nothing like the purr, and later roar, of a Mustang. The 2015 Mustang GT that I drove had a powerful 435 horsepower V8 engine under the hood.

The driver’s seat is not what I would call a luxury seat. It’s more of a sporty performance seat. The seat remains firm underneath you once you sit in it, rather than being something you sink into.

The car starts with a push of a button. The button isn’t where you might expect. Instead, the button sits way down below the radio and everything else, near the shifter.

The power button is surrounded by switches, which are for options such as traction control, drive mode and steering feel.

There are four drive modes – normal, sport, track, and snow/wet. The driver also has three choices for adjusting the steering feel – normal, sport, and comfort.

You can see all of the gauges, controls and switches from the driver’s seat. The gauges in the dash reminded me of those you might find in an airplane’s cockpit.

The fact that the gauges were actually labeled revolutions per minute and groundspeed just made me smile. I also smiled because they made me think of planes, which is ok because this pony can fly.

Even the interior of Mustang is sleek, especially noticeable in the dashboard. The detail of the stitching matches the seats, making the whole look pull together into one very stylish, sporty look.

Mustang has other small details that make for a very aesthetically pleasing package. Open the door and you’ll see a little Mustang reflecting on the ground.

Something else you’ll see when you open the door is a nameplate that says Mustang. It lights up when it’s dark. It’s just neat.

The back seat is (and has always been) rather small. Unfortunately, it is the reason I retired my 88 in the first place. It wasn’t very practical for hauling around small children. My youngest did fit in the back of the GT, with very little room to spare. If I had had the driver’s seat all of the way back it would have been even less space. My oldest is 6 foot tall and couldn’t sit back there without kissing his knees. So if you have small children you might be able to make the back seat work. If your children are young adults or older teens, or very tall, it could be problematic.
CAR REVIEW - 2015 Ford Mustang GT Coupe
The trunk is a bit larger than I expected. It was a lot larger than the trunk that my 88 Mustang convertible had had; we used to call that trunk a glovebox. It did easily manage to hold a full load of groceries and some other items I picked up while running errands. And I believe it could also manage to hold a few suitcases or even a baby carrriage.
The combination of 19-inch Pirelli tires and a performance suspension helped Mustang hold the road and handle the curves well. The car responded well for me, having no problem accelerating or holding speed. I found if I really hit the gas the car was eager to lunge forward, as a wild horse might. Coincidence? Probably not. Gas mileage is not economical. But be truthful. Would you really expect a true sports car to have phenomenal gas mileage? What you give up on fuel economy you will get back in pure pleasure and performance. I spent my week in this car smiling. My saddest moment was when they picked it up to take it back. Flying up the Parkway was a blast. Heck, driving the Mustang even made mundane errands to the grocery store feel exciting.

  1. I wish we could get this car! I even love the color! Maybe when I’m older and I have a lot more money I can afford to get this! It would be fun to have.

  2. My dad has a slightly older model, ironically red, and it really is a versatile sports car. It scares the dickens out of me though, the way the engine purrs.

  3. I would love to upgrade to the 2015 Ford Mustang GT. I have the 2013 model and I love it. The Mustang is such a great car.

  4. I have been looking at getting a new car. I will have to take a 2015 Ford Mustang GT out for a test drive.

  5. Cool car, I like the regal red color that it’s body is colored with. And that engine looks really cool (and complicated) too!

  6. my husband has been wanting a mustang forever. I’m thinking about caving and letting him get one. I’ll have to show him this.
