CAR REVIEW – 2015 Chevrolet Impala LTZ Full Size Sedan

When I was 16-17 I dated a boy named Bill. He was really into cars. (If you’ve been around a while and have heard the Pontiac Tempest story – he’s the one that gave it to me.) He himself had a Chevy Impala that he was restoring. He painted William on the driver’s door and Valerie on the passenger door. I thought that was so romantic. Anyway. I only got to ride in it a few times before we broke up, but those occasions were often enough to know that the car was an enormous, black speed machine. Also often enough to know that the only comfy seats were in the front. Who knew back then that I wouldn’t be in another Impala until almost exactly 30 years later, in the year 2015.

I recently had the opportunity to test drive the 2015 Chevrolet Impala LTZ. The vehicle has a choice of three engines available – a 2.5-liter inline-4 (EPA-estimated 22/31 mpg City/Highway), a 3.6-liter V6 (EPA-estimated 19/29 mpg City/Highway), and a bi-fuel 3.6-liter V6. The car comes with a number of safety features including blind spot alert, lane departure warning, forward collision alert and rear cross traffic alert. New models also come with six months of OnStar service, which offers automatic crash response, directions, roadside assistance and more. The directions you receive get downloaded to the car’s navigation system. The vehicle comes standard with ten air bags.

From the moment I saw it I couldn’t help but notice how sleek the exterior is. The glossy black finish gleams and almost beckons you to come feel the smooth curves on the body of the car. The side mirrors light up, continuing to extend the welcome and illuminating your way at night.




The soft, cushiony heated leather front seats are welcoming, perfect for cold mornings and long road trips. I found the front to be roomy, with more than sufficient leg and head room. The Impala is loaded with tech features, and the driver can easily see all of the controls from the driver’s seat. Some things can be viewed in the small screen located in the gauges in front of the driver. Most controls and choices can be made directly from the 8-inch touchscreen display located in the infotainment center of the dash.
The infotainment center menus were easy to navigate and the choices simple enough to make with the press of a finger. I have terrible vision and really appreciated how large and clear the icons and selections are onscreen. Some controls, such as those for audio and bluetooth, can also be accessed from buttons on the steering wheel.With a few simple clicks you have quick and easy access to communications and navigation, as well as music from the radio, SiriusXM satellite or CD.
Have you ever been in a car where there was no place to put anything? That’s not the case with the Impala. There’s even a secret compartment hidden in the center console in the front, which turns out to be a perfect place to store small items such as phone, wallet, iPod, camera, and the like. And speaking of phones ad iPods and other connected devices, the Impala even works as its own 4g Wifi hotspot!

I was so pleased to discover that in some ways it’s very much like the Impala of old, in that it’s large and fast. The 2015 Impala is a full size sedan that seats five. I’ve always considered the Impala to be more of a sports car than a family sedan. As such, I was pleased to find that the car handled really well. It responded to commands quickly and cornered nicely. The transmission worked smoothly. There was minimal noise from the road or the environment outside.
While it can certainly haul ass, this car can also haul family. The Impala’s back seat is spacious, providing room for three. The seat is comfortable, and offers enough head and legroom for even tall passengers. My almost 6-foot tall son fit back there comfortably with no issue. There is a console in the middle that you can pull down which has 2 cup holders. There’s a power port in the back seat, which is nice because let’s face it you can’t have too many places to plug things in.

The trunk of the Impala was very roomy, measuring 18.8 cubic feet.. It easily handled my groceries and errands with room to spare. It could easily handle several suitcases, and I’m pretty sure it would even be able to accommodate my Mom’s power scooter.
If you’re looking for a spacious and comfortable family vehicle, the Chevrolet Impala is a model you will want to check out. Pricing for the 2015 Impala starts at approximately $27,885 and goes up depending on what model and options you choose.
