2011 HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE – Otterbox Defender iPhone Case

One of the hottest items people are wanting to find under their tree this year is certainly the iPhone 4s. Since my son recently switched to the iPhone 4s, I knew I had to find a case that would protect it. He’s careful with his phones, but things do happen. I have been debating getting an iPhone for a while. I have been known to accidentally drop my phone. Before I spent all that money on an iPhone I wanted to be sure that I could protect it from accidents and from myself. I saw an Otterbox case that my Mom had last year and was impressed, which is why I gladly accepted the opportunity to check out the Otterbox iPhone 4S Defender Case.
MY THOUGHTS
I received a black Otterbox Defender iPhone Case for the iPhone 4s. The case has a bit of weight to it, but in fairness that’s also part of what gives it the level of protection that it does.

The case is made of three layers, and when combined offers protection against many common accidents including bump, shock, and drop. It does keep dust out, but is not waterproof. The case is pretty easy to put on, you take off the silicone to gain access to the polycarbonate case inside, then pout your phone in and then put the silicone back on. At first I thought the clear plastic was for display purposes. It wasn’t until I was getting ready to remove it that I realized it was meant to be there to protect the screen. I thought perhaps the material’s thickness would interfere with touchscreen use like some screen protectors but surprisingly that was not the case.

Despite being enclosed in this case, the phone is completely operable, just as it would be if it weren’t in the case. Ports are covered by little flip up silicone doors. The side buttons are completely covered and remain fully operational. The Defender case has a racheting belt clip included, which can also be used as a media viewing stand. I liked this case so much that I bought a black and pink one for myself, I highly recommend it.
