Check out 12 Items to Make a Tween or Teen Girl's Room Fun and Trendy.

by Valerie Gray at Mode

I have two boys. Neither cares about what’s cute or colorful. My oldest does all of his decorating with posters. My youngest doesn’t really seem to have shown a preference on decor. For years we decorated with themed curtains that matched his favorite animated characters, and over the past year I’ve just gone with simple color that washes well. I remember when I was young my Mom always made sure my room was nice, but I recall it being rather simple. For a while I had a whte canopy bed and pink walls. About the only decoraitng I remember was my collection of stuffed animals. I found myself browsing the web, wondering what I might decorate my room with today if I were young again. The collection of items shown in the slideshow above contains items that cught my eye that would be great for decorating a tween or teen girls room.

Do you have any tips for decorating a tween or teen girl’s room? How was your room decorated?

  1. Kid tastes change as much as styles. Keep basics like walls classic and furniture meant to last. Plan on storage to fit interests–toys, books, dvd collections, etc. Use portable items for pop. Have a place for everything and everything in its place. Bedside reading lamp is a must.

  2. I remember requesting a purple room…and my mom went with it. She stenciled a border and it was really pretty! I had matching bedding and everything.

  3. I wish I had enough money to make my girl’s room fantastic. Painted walls, matching bedspreads, Hobby Lobby wall hangings. Our girl’s room is simple and very messy.

  4. My girls will be tweens before we know it! So this is great, I’ll have to remember all this once that time hits! They are super girly, girls so who knows what things they will want!

  5. Hum–I could use a lanp like that on MY nightstand! It really is quite pretty and sleek looking and seems to be able to give off enough light to read in bed!

  6. The chandelier is a must! I love them and they look so girly. When I was growing up my mom painted our beds a real pretty turquoise, she found an antique desk that she put in the middle. I shared my room with my sister. Now that I think about it I find myself using turquoise a lot in my home. I wonder if it stems from those four poster beds she painted!

  7. I love the swinging chair and I just so happened to purchase that desk this past weekend for myself. I needed a small desk for one of our bedrooms and that fit just perfect. I only have boys and they are adults now so I don’t really have any tips. I am so out of touch with that type of thing.

  8. So many cute ideas. When I was growing up I was a tomboy so my room was blue with nothing fun. Sadly I am still the same – I missed the decorating gene.

  9. My Daughter would have loved the hanging chair in her room. When my kids were teenagers i let them pick out the paint colors and design for there rooms.

  10. Everything on the list seems really nice. My favorite is the chair that hangs from the ceiling!

  11. All these are wonderful ideas to make trendy teen girls room. I love the colors and they are so virbant and gives a modern look altogether. The chair that hangs from the ceiling looks so amazing as well. Thanks for the great ideas.
