DK Publishing’s Sophie la Girafe series is a set of 4 board books for babies and toddlers. The books are Sophie’s Busy Day, Let’s Get Counting!, Peekaboo Sophie!, and Colors. Adorable Sophie interacts with your child in each book in educational and fun ways!
Peekaboo Sophie! is a lift-the-flap book that lets your child find Sophie’s friends hiding behind various objects and helping to build fine motor skills and problem solving skills. There are also a few texturized pictures to help sensory development.
Sophie’s Busy Day follows Sophie throughout the day as she wakes up, goes to the store, bakes a cake, and goes to bed. Several objects are textured, like Sophie’s blanket, yummy apples on a tree, and even the sprinkles on a cake!
Colors has a unique tabbed layout so baby can easily flip to his or her favorite color. Open up to a specific color and baby will see an object of that color and a cute friend hiding behind it. The tab aspect can help baby develop find motor skills!
Let’s Get Counting! follows Sophie as she interacts with her favorite objects, counting them along the way. The book counts from 1-10, as well as 20, 50, and 100. The cute pictures provide a fun visualization of each number for your child.
My fiancé’s first thoughts when seeing the Sophie la Girafe set of books was “Those are girly.” Typical man! I thoroughly disagree. I think Sophie and the books’ illustrations are created in a way that makes both boys and girls enjoy them. The pictures and colors caught the attention of my toddler boy and he loved flipping through all the pages and feeling the textures. The pastel colors used are very calming, but there are bright little pops of color that stand out on each page and pull in baby’s interest. Overall, these books are an absolute hit with me (and my son)!
