Energizer provided me with a gift pack identical to that being given away in exchange for sharing this information. Please note that any personal opinions reflected in this post are my own and have not been influenced by the sponsor in any way.

It seems like it was summer and we were just wearing shorts the other day. Wait. We were just wearing shorts two days ago, it was really hot. Hot in October. Sumer flew by, and fall is flying right on by too. In a couple of weeks, on November 3, it’ll be time to turn the clocks back an hour for Daylight Savings Time, and it’s all downhill from there.
Turning the clocks back is important. Why? Because if you don’t you’ll be ridiculously early or late. It’s not life saving or anything, but it needs to be done. Something that could be life saving, however, is changing the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. That’s very important. Because it is such an important thing to do, Energizer, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, and fire departments nationwide started the Change Your Clock Change Your Battery program 26 years ago, in order to raise awareness of the importance of working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in helping to keep families safe in their homes.
“All too often firefighters see firsthand the devastating effects on families whose homes don’t have working smoke detectors,” said Chief William Metcalf, President and Chairman of the Board of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. “Thanks to Energizer, more than 5 million batteries have been donated in communities across the country through this program. This not only helps provide families with critical early warning time to escape a home fire, but it also helps protect our firefighters by reducing the likelihood they’ll have to enter a burning building to rescue someone still in the home.”
Did you know, thirty-eight percent of fatal fire injuries occur in homes with no smoke alarms, while 24 percent occur in homes in which at least one smoke alarm is present but fails to operate, frequently due to dead or missing batteries. Those are pretty scary numbers. I don’t want to be one of those statistics, so I will be changing the batteries in my smoke alarms when I change the clocks. We don’t have a carbon monoxide detector, but if we did I’d change the batteries in that too at the same time. It’s a no-brainer really. After all, I’ll already be making my way around the house changing clocks, passing by the smoke detectors.
From now through November 3,people that visit the Energizer Bunny Facebook page and click on the Fire Safety Info Tab will have the chance to enter a sweepstakes to win a Family Safety Kit.
