This Sunday brings an end to Daylight Savings Time. We all know that in the fall we have to set our clocks back. It’s even printed on calendars. So why is it so many people don’t know that when you change your clocks you should also change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors? The National Fire Prevention Association estimates that forty percent of fatal fire injuries occur in homes without working smoke alarms, while 23 percent occur in homes in which at least one smoke alarm is present but fails to operate. That’s a staggering number. And a needless one that can be avoided.
Did you know that in some communities the fire departments give free batteries to the members of the community as a result of the Change Your Clock Change Your Battery program? That’s right. Over the past 22 years, Energizer has donated more than four million batteries to local fire departments. This year, people like you and I can get involved and help increase the number of donations.
To help increase the number of batteries donated as part of the Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery program, visit the Energizer Bunny Facebook page and click on the CYCCYB tab. Pledge to change your smoke alarm batteries and create a family escape plan, and then share the Change Your Clock Change Your Battery message with others. Each action triggers a donation of batteries. That’s pretty easy, and very worthwhile. It could even help save a life.
