Yesterday I visited Glamour Shots in the Freehold Raceway Mall for a mini-makeover. For those of you unfamiliar, Glamour Shots is a specialized portrait studio that is located in many malls across the country. Their big specialty is makeover portraits, for which they’ve been the industry leader for over 20 years. They offer portraits for women, special occasions, maternity, parties, families, children, high school seniors, and more.
After being served some refreshments I met renowned parenting coach and author Tammy Gold, whose book “Secrets of the Nanny Whisperer” is due out soon. Tammy is a psychotherapist licensed in New York and New Jersey and is also certified as a life coach and a parent coach; she is also accredited by the International Coaching Federation. Tammy has made appearances on Good Morning America, ABC News, MSNBC and Parents TV as a parenting expert, and has been featured in over 100 articles in national magazines and newspapers, including The New York Times, Parenting, Parents, Redbook, OK!, Pregnancy, The Wall Street Journal, The Huffington Post, and more.
Then it was time for the mommy makeovers. But first, let me take a selfie.

(Please note usually if I go out I do put on some makeup. I didn’t see much of a point in doing that since they were going to do it. In other words, I really look like poop here.)
We were seated in the salon chairs and the crew got to work. I found the girls in the crew to be very friendly. I loved that they were animated and conversational, because there aren’t many more things more awkward then getting a personal service from someone who won’t even carry on a conversation with you.

She started by styling my hair. In discussing what I might like she took note of the fact I did not want my hair straight. She thought it would be fun to remove some of the curls I love so much and just give me lots of wave and bounce. I don’t know about you, but I love having my hair done. When the combing and brushing and whatnot all start I could just go to sleep. It’s so relaxing!

After hair and a short break it was time to get my makeup done. This was the first time I’d ever had makeup airbrushed on. It was cool. And by cool I mean almost chilly! It was a strange feeling having air blown right into my face. The foundation dried really fast and it stayed on until bedtime when I washed it off. The lovely lady that did my makeup was a bit like Glinda the good witch, working magic with her lotions and potions. Ok, so there were no lotions or potions. Just lots of different powders and brushes and pencils.
Ready for my “after” selfie?

And this is me with my Mom. My Mom doesn’t usually look her age, but when they were finished with her she looked like she could have been at least 10-15 years younger!

After a client finishes getting their hair and makeup done it’s time to meet with the photographer. We didn’t do this but the process was explained. Basically, the client works with a professional photographer to that will help them select poses, outfits and accessories, and set up the lighting. It sounds like it takes a while, doesn’t it? It does. And that makes sense. If you’re looking for someone to snap any old photo and  send you on your way in a hurry you’ll need to look elsewhere. Be prepared to spend a couple of hours at Glamour Shots. They want you to look good, because if you do they do. Glamour Shots uses a professional photography lab to produce their portraits.
It was great being pampered and getting a mini makeover. I can see where doing a complete session, either alone or with children, family or friends, would be a lot of fun. Good photos are fun to look at, and in this case fun to have taken. Not only would a Glamour Shots portrait be a great gift for yourself, it would also be a great Father’s Day gift as well!
For those interested, Glamour Shots is currently holding a young models portrait contest, for anyone under the age of 17.

  1. You look really fabulous! Can you believe I have never been to Glamour Shots? I need to do that sometime soon. It would be fun to get glamoured up and have some pictures taken.

  2. Well, how much fun is that? I think you looked great before and after, but that after shot really has the vavavoom going! 🙂

  3. I actually had a makeover last month courtesy of General Mills. It was really awesome and made me feel like a movie star.

  4. How fun! You both look great! Now I want to go! I’ve had those little makeup counter makeovers, but I never walk away looking as great as the two of you! I’m going to have to check if we have a Glamour Shots around here! 🙂

  5. I’ve never had a makeover, but I’ve always wanted one. My mom did Glamour Shots before, and they made her look like a clown. However, your Glamour Shots made you and your Mom look amazing! I bet this was a lot of fun.
