Stepping Stories
“Stepping Stories are a perfect fit for a child’s developing mind. Each story uses positive language to encourage desired behavior and understanding of a situation. This is much more effective than negating unfavorable actions or circumstances. The personalized details help children internalize the story and its message as their own. The visual representation provides another layer of communication. Of equal importance is the protected, quality, parent-child interaction during the reading of the stories. I am thrilled about these books as a professional and as a parent who has experienced first-hand the success of these stories.” – Dr. Susan Lipkins, Child Psychologist
Stepping Stories
Bedtime in our house has always been an issue. I think my son was a little over a year before he started sleeping through the night. I have always tried to stick to a routine but, sometimes that just did not happen. When he was younger I was a working mom. I worked all different shifts as did my husband. I am lucky now that I actually get to stay home with him. When I finally felt like we had established a great routine things changed with our family making a big move from New Jersey to Ohio and hubby taking a new job. My husbands job often requires him to be on the road for extended periods of time, something my little one and I are still adjusting to. I always try to stick to the same routine. He gets his bath, then jammies on , brushes his teeth, and off to pick a book(or two) for bedtime. He loves snuggling up in bed with a great book just as much as I do.
We received a personalized Stepping Stories book for bedtime. Stepping Stories are great books to help children with different challenges or transitions they might be facing. They are geared toward children ages 5 and under. They have 13 different topics with new ones coming soon. Here are just a few:

  • Sleep Storybook
  • Potty Storybook
  • Food Allergies Storybook
  • Divorce/Separation Storybook
  • New Sibling Storybook

There is also a dedication page with your child picture My son got so excited when he saw his picture in the book. Who wouldn’t! The story we received a copy of was entitled Bedtime for Alexander. He said “Hey that’s MY name!” So, right away he was interested in the story. He even requested that we read it again. I have been trying to incorporate Stepping Stories into his nightly routine. We are making some progress. No more crying when you say the word BED to him. He is slowly getting more comfortable with being in his own bed with the help of Stepping Stories.

  1. We start unwinding with a bubble bath. She gets to play for a little bit more with quiet toys, then we read a few books and turn of the lights.

  2. My own kids bedtime at home was 8 ish then slid upward as they aged upward. It was get ready for bed then get in bed simple as that. I’d help them say a prayer, kiss them goodnight, and that was it until the next morning. away things were more relaxed and completely flexible.

  3. They put their pj’s on, brush their teeth, then say their goodnights to us. I usually tickle both of them and then we say I love you and see you in the morning.

  4. we have bathtime, storytime, prayertime, and then off to dreamland….all snug as a bug in a rug….
