Have you ever gotten a tax refund and found yourself wondering a month later regretting spending it all on things that had no lasting value? I did once when I was young and I can say that it was an awful feeling, and the short-lived fun I had spending it wasn’t worth the regret and lack of having something that came later. We’ve never had a truly sizable tax refund but I know if we ever did have one and didn’t own a home that’s probably what I’d do with the money.
Judging by their new “Avoid Refund Regret” campaign, it seems to me like the folks at Clayton Homes may have had a similar experience to mine. Clayton Homes builds, sells, finances, leases, and insures manufactured and modular homes, as well commercial and educational buildings through its affiliates and family of brands. In business since 1956, they have won multiple awards for both design and construction. In terms of manufactured homes, Clayton is big. The title America’s Largest Homebuilder for 2013 was given to Clayton Homes in mid-2014. That title was based on a comparison of the number of manufactured homes sold to the number of site-built homes sold as reported by builderonline.com and the number of manufactured homes shipped as compared to all other manufactured home manufacturers as reported by the Manufactured Home Institute.
With tax season now underway Clayton has a new campaign that offers potential new homebuyers the opportunity to make the most out of their tax refund. Customers who take advantage of the Avoid Refund Regret promotion will receive an incentive of $2,500 for each section of a home they purchase, up to $7,500 total for a three-section home. The offer can be taken advantage of through one of three different ways:
- In Overstock.com™ gift cards that can be used to purchase items for the new home.
- As a deduction on closing costs.
- As a reduction of the price of the new home.
The program, which runs through March 31, offers those purchasing a new Clayton Home an extra incentive towards homeownership during the beginning of 2015. The company is offering customer incentives to new homebuyers, based on the type and size of Clayton Home purchased with the buyer choosing one or a combination of three different incentive packages. The most exciting incentive option this year is that customers can choose Overstock.com™ gift cards to be used towards furnishing their brand new home with appliances and furniture.
“The idea behind Avoid Refund Regret is to help our customers spend their federal tax refunds this year on an investment in value that they won’t regret.” Clayton Homes CEO Kevin Clayton said. “This promotion will help make affording your dream home a reality.
“Beyond giving customers an excellent deal, we’re also giving them a choice,” Clayton said. “Homebuyers can select how they want that money applied and choose whether they want to reduce the cost of the home, pay fewer closing costs or use the Overstock.com™ gift cards to purchase home goods and furnishings that will help customize their home to fit their personal lifestyles.”

I’d love the Overstock.com gift cards. I love shopping there and could get so many new things for my new house.
What a great program from Clayton homes!!! Reducing the price of a new home would be amazing!!
Great promotion for those looking to purchase a modular home. We lived in one when I was growing up, they’re a great value.
We’re planning a move soon, and I have very specific things I’d like to have in my new home. I’ve actually been thinking about going with something like Clayton homes instead of a traditionally built house!
Refund regret too often comes only for those who rather than save themselves allow Uncle sam to save for them without interest. I’d rather pay nothing in and get nothing out paying my bills or saving (ha) along the way.
What a neat idea. I really like that they make owning a home more affordable.
