Did you ever wonder what a dog’s voice box looked like? I did for a couple of years. When I was a teenager we had a neighbor I’ll call Glory. At that time my Mom had dogs, two of them if I remember correctly. They didn’t bark excessively or anything, just from time to time if they had to go out or if they were outside and saw something that really interested them. Well, every time one of the dogs barked, Glory would complain. She’d telephone and leave messages. “Can’t you get that dog to shut up?” Or the worst one, “If you don’t get that dog to shut up I’ll cut its voice box out.” She’d come over and ring the bell. “You have got to get that dog to stop barking.” There were even a number of instances where she called the police. Now there are two funny things I must tell you. The first is that the barking wasn’t always coming from my Mom’s dogs. The second is that Glory had a noisy poodle of her own. When Glory sold her house my Mom was so relieved.
As you probably know if you’ve read my blog for a little while, I got a new puppy about a month ago. The other day I received some products for dogs. Pet Corrector was one of them. I saw the big bolded words “Stops Barking” and was immediately taken back thirty years. At first I couldn’t imagine what I would use such a product for. After all, Dobby doesn’t bark much at all, aside from occasionally “speaking” for my husband. Then I did a bit of reading on their website and learned that this product is also designed to help deter pets being in certain places, stealing things like food, and jumping up on people. I’ve had a number of dogs jump up on me over the years and it can be unpleasant. I have seen other peoples dogs steal food. And while I have no restrictions on where the dog can be in our house except the bathroom (that’s the cat’s room), I do know many people don’t like their dogs in certain places like up on the couch. I haven’t used the Pet Corrector yet, but will have it handy in case the need arises.
Here’s a brief 30-second video on how the product works.

I remember Glory, a decent neighbor mostly. Funny thing is she never took mind or cleaned up after her poodle came over and relieved himself on our then newly sodded front yard.
oh wow I did’t know they made a teaching tool like this, sounds great!
I need to check out this! My older dog barks so much!
Very interesting teaching tool! We are planning to get a new dog soon so I can use all the advice I can get on training ideas. I like how it can help with jumping up, too – that is good especially with big dogs.
I used to complain to my hubby about our neighbor’s dog who barked a lot of the day (my room/office is adjacent to their dog run) and it drove me crazy. Lately there’s been a lots of burglaries in our little town and now I don’t mind when he barks because he can be a deterrent to any possible stranger.
I like this as apposed to shock collars. That neighbor sounds like she has no joy in life.
