Ever feel afraid of a booming thunderstorm? How about those big bumble bees? Grover knows preschoolers have lots of the same kinds of fears. Sesame Street: Being Brave is packed with stories to help every preschooler feel brave and fight their fears. The curriculum focuses on helping children use strategies to overcome obstacles and face common fears. Children are encouraged to recognize and label their feelings and use different strategies to help manage strong emotions, such as feeling worried and scared. The home video also focuses on empathy, taking the perspective of others and understanding the feelings of others (reading facial cues and body language). To help build children’s vocabulary, words such as pollinate, hexagon, and veterinarian are introduced. Finally, the home video touches upon math skills such as counting and geometric shapes. But even monsters get scared sometimes, Grover thinks there is a monster at the end of the DVD and doesn’t want you to watch! If you are brave enough to keep watching get ready for some of Sesame Street’s most classic lessons complete with a bonus full-length Sesame Street video “Celebration of Me, Grover.” Also included is a glow-in-the-dark sticker sheet for keeping the night fun and cheerful.
My youngest isn’t afraid of much. He really hates being at the dentist, that’s about the closest thing he has to a fear. I remember when I was a child I knew other children that were afraid of things like thunder and lightning. And being afraid of the dark. I know those are all pretty common fears for children. The newest Sesame Street DVD might help reassure young children about their fears, by showing them that some of their characters have fears too. This DVD would be great for both old and new Sesame Street fans.

I am lucky that my youngest son really has no fears, but it can be a bother, too. I have to be careful with him that he understands the dangers of snakes.
The only childhood fear I remember is one of death. Later came height and snakes.
I would love to have this for my nieces. They have been through a lot in life. I also want it because I live on Sesame Street so they would get a kick out of this!
this would be a great dvd for all children to watch. they need to learn about fear at any early age.
My granddaughter is always afraid of things, a noise, a stranger, a bug. I think this DVD may be good for her. I will look for it.

Brave is such a remarkable thing for youngsters. I’ve seen children go through things with bravery to rival a military corporal, and have even seen it written by a defender of our freedom. I believe our children are braver than we can imagine – when it really counts.
