I’ve mentioned this before but I’ll say it again. We LOVE music in our house. We all have our own iPods and are almost never without them. One of the things I thought was missing from our kitchen was music. Sure, we can turn music on in the living room and blast it and we’d hear it just fine. And sometimes that does have it’s place. But there are times when RB is watching television and I’m cooking that I want to listen to music. That’s where the iHome iP39 Kitchen Timer and FM Alarm Clock Radio Speaker System for iPhone/iPod comes in.

The iP39 is the perfect kitchen companion for iPhone and iPod users, combining sleek kitchen aesthetics and easy-to-clean surfaces with two independent timers and great iHome sound. It’s perfect for listening to cooking show podcasts and following recipe apps.
The iP39 is packed with extras, including a retractable universal dock, time sync feature to instantly set the clock to your iPhone time, a magnetic remote control and USB port to charge devices such as cell phones, PDAs, etc.

MY THOUGHTS
I received an iHome iP39 Kitchen Timer and FM Alarm Clock Radio Speaker System. Everything you need to use it is included in the box – the iP39, Universal 100-240V AC adaptor, iPod adapters, remote control and batteries. There is no assembly required, just put the batteries into the remote and plug the iP39 in and you’re good to go. The black and silver iP39 is a really sleek and attractive unit. The clock appears on a backlit LCD display that is large enough to read from across the room. The universal dock is built in to a tray that slides out. Just place the adapter for your iPod into the tray and your iPod will then stay securely in place. Your iPod charges while it’s in the dock, whether playing or not. There is an aux-in jack so you can connect external devices like a CD player. There’s a USB port built in as well that you can use to charge things like cell phones and PDAs. One of the neatest things about this unit is the way you set the time. I don’t know about you, but sometimes setting the time on appliances can be a pain in the butt. For the iHome iP39 all you have to do is press sync and the unit syncs to the time on your iPod or iPhone. The included remote control is magnetic and attaches to the side of the unit. The remote allows you to navigate through your iPod menus and controls song play and volume as well. I love that this unit not only lets me play music from my iPod but it also functions as a kitchen timer. It has two independent timers, perfect for when you’re preparing a recipe in stages or preparing more than one dish. Not only is it a kitchen timer, it works as an alarm clock as well. If used as an alarm clock you can choose to wake to your iPhone, iPod, or FM Radio. There’s a Sure Alarm battery backup for the alarm in case of a power interruption. The sound that comes out of this little unit is great, check it out.

And here’s what my youngest son thought. It’s really short but totally worth it, and totally unscripted.

We’ve fallen in love with the iP39. As with other iHome products that we’ve tried in the past this did not disappoint. I’d recommend this product to anyone who spends time in their kitchen and would like to listen to music. It’s also great for people without a lot of room that have an iPod or iPhone and need a charger and alarm clock but don’t have much room.
