Mom Knows It All DIY Valentine's Day Craft - Heart Suncatcher Pendant
Valentine’s Day is for everyone! That’s right, it’s for anyone that wants to share a little bit of their feelings with some one else. It’s for kids, adults, grandparents, anyone at all. Sometimes the best gift is one that can be seen and used over and over again. Candy is nice, don’t get me wrong. But, you can’t look fondly at candy in a year. (in my house you can’t even look at it fondly in a week LOL.) Hand-crafted gifts are always appreciated because they show that you cared enough to put time and energy into making them.
This tutorial is for a fashion craft. While it could be done at any time during the year, it is especially appropriate for Valentine’s Day. The pendant made in this craft can be worn as jewelry, mirror decoration or any amount of other uses. Making the pendant takes about an hour. Ready? Let’s go!

Here are the materials needed to make this craft.

Step 1. Create a loop from one end of the copper wire.
Step 2. Form a heart shape from the copper wire. Make sure that the loop created from the former step is placed in the middle part of the heart. The shape of the heart would depend on your liking. Cut the excess wire but make sure to leave some room on the other end for locking.

Step 3. Twist the free end of the copper wire on the base of the loop created on the opposite side. This will lock the heart loop together in place.
Step 4. Tightly wrap the crochet thread around the copper wire heart. Start from the base where the loop is located. This will help the sewing thread later on to grip the sides of the heart.

Step 5. Continue wrapping the copper wire until you reach the loop part of the heart frame.
Step 6. Tie the red thread firmly on the wrapped heart frame.

Step 7. Wrap the red sewing thread randomly across the heart frame. This will create a cobweb of red thread on the middle body of the heart frame. Continue doing this until you have achieved a thick layer of thread in the middle. Lock the end of the thread firmly to avoid unnecessary breakout from the heart frame.
Step 8. Insert the necklace.
Tada! You’re finished! You can now use or give this handmade item as a gift this Valentine’s Day!

  1. Your DIY project turned out so pretty and unique! I have an 11 year old niece who is into crafts like this and I know she’s going to love it. Maybe she’d even earn some extra cash if she tries to sell some to her classmates. 🙂 Sharing this post with her.
