4 Ways to Improve Your Kitchen On A Budget
There have been many times that I’ve wished I could redo our kitchen. At present it isn’t in the budget. so, we’re making small changes over time. Sam shared some tips on how to improve a kitchen on a tight budget, which I am sharing here with permission.

Ways to Improve Your Kitchen on a Tight Budget

If your kitchen is dated and in need of improvement, you probably wish you could gut it and create the custom kitchen of your dreams. Getting an all-new kitchen sounds great, but it doesn’t fit with the budget of many homeowners. Fortunately, you can make a major difference in your kitchen without spending a fortune. If you want a big change without dealing with hefty price tags and huge contractor bills, consider utilizing some of these ideas.
Repair Instead of Replacing
One of the biggest money-savers in a kitchen remodel is repairing what you can instead of replacing everything. For instance, if you have hardwood kitchen cabinets that have gone out of style, you can give them a facelift by refinishing them and adding new hardware. You can complete this task for a fraction of the cost of new cabinets.
De-Clutter
One of the things that makes a kitchen look unattractive and dated is an excessive amount of clutter. Regardless of the size of your kitchen, it will look too small when every inch of it is filled with pots, pans, food and other items. It doesn’t cost any money to de-clutter your space, but you are sure to notice a big difference. Start by emptying one cabinet or drawer at a time, and seriously consider getting rid of anything that you haven’t used in the past year. De-cluttering also has the added benefit of possibly helping you earn money for other kitchen projects. Host a yard sale, or post the excess kitchen items you want to sell online. You’ll get the double benefit of making money while enjoying your newly clean and organized kitchen.
Choose a Focal Point
When you are dealing with a limited budget, you can make the most of your hard-earned dollars by investing in a focal piece that will make a huge impact. This can be any appliance, furniture item or decor piece that sets your kitchen apart from others. Hahn Signature Series Sinks are available in several different varieties. These unique products turn a sink from a basic fixture into a work of art. Whether your kitchen is decorated in a modern or classic style, you can change its appearance in a major way by purchasing a new Hahn sink.
Use Color
Few things change the appearance of a space more quickly and drastically than color. It won’t cost a lot to paint your kitchen walls or even your cabinets, but this action can have a huge impact. You don’t have to paint your walls a bold color if that’s not your style. If you prefer a more neutral palette, use a basic color on the walls, and add bold color through accent pieces like wall art, serving platters or a printed tablecloth. One of the best things about using color in small doses is the fact that you can easily modify it when you are ready for a change. Add a new color of curtains to your kitchen windows, change out your table settings or add a new color to your room with a colorful bouquet of flowers.
When you implement some of these creative strategies, you’ll find that you don’t have to spend tens of thousands of dollars to update your kitchen and enjoy a fresh look.

  1. Just days ago unboxed new small appliance compliments of my little girl, marked for Big Brother donation two other small ones, trashed broken cappuccino pot leaving its coffee holder empty–too bad I still need more counter.

  2. A working stove would definitely clear up some counter space!! Right now we’re working on a double burner, but it works and for that BB’s grateful. Of course, she’d be even MORE grateful w/ a new casa. ; ) Gracias for the kitchen update tips. BB2U

  3. You’re right about paint, definitely. I painted my kitchen an ‘off’ color once and left it for half a year (trying not to be wasteful). When I repainted it to a color that felt right, it was such a nice feeling. It changed the whole feel of the room too.

  4. Thanks for the suggestions. My kitchen definitely needs to be updated. Last year we redid the back splash and that was great however I think this year we will paint. I agree paint makes a huge difference.

  5. A few years ago I bought all SS appliances and put in granite countertops and I love my double oven. My cabinets are old, but in good shape, so as soon as I decide what color I want them, I’m going to spruce them up a little bit. These are all great ways to improve your kitchen.

  6. It really is amazing how much different home spaces look when you declutter. My Mom recently cleared her pantry out for the third time in a couple of months – it looks great. I recently reorganized my frying pans in the cabinet, and gained a lot of extra space.

  7. great tips! one does not really need to break the bank when improving the kitchen. ingenuity and creativity will go a long way
