I can’t imagine what a dog does all day if he’s home alone. They must get bored. A Channel 4 study, BBC found that 85% of dogs show some kind of anxious reaction when left alone. Wow! Many people have no idea what their dog is up to while they’re gone. After all, signs of anxiety and boredom such as howling, chewing, destruction and digging don’t begin until after your dog has been alone for about 5-35 minutes. At our house, someone is home most of the time, so I don’t worry about Dobby getting into things. Things meaning trouble, that is. If we’re all out of the house, which is rare, we put Dobby in his crate. For someone that works outside of the home, this could mean a very long day for a dog, either getting into things he shouldn’t, or stuck in a gated room or crate. That’s not an ideal solution for the dog or for the owner. There is another solution for folks who would like it if their dog wasn’t alone all day – DogVacay Daycare.
If you’re been reading Mom Knows It All for a while you may recall my post on DogVacay, a community that connects dog owners with over 20,000 pet sitters across North America. Featured on news outlets including Wall Street Journal, the NY Times, Forbes and The Today Show, DogVacay has grown and has introduced a new service to meet the needs of the dog lovers. DogVacay Daycare is exactly what it sounds like – daycare for dogs.
To find a daycare location near you all you need to do is visit the DogVacay Daycare website. Just click the button that says “browse sitters”. You put in your zip code, and can checkmark the box that says daycare, which would remove any provider that only offers overnight boarding. You will then be shown a list of providers in your area, along with reviews from other dog owners, photos and more. You are then able to ask the host questions or schedule a no commitment meet ‘n greet with the host, as well as book your pup’s vacay or daycare and pay online.
Now if you have children I’m sure you had a good number of days when you wondered how your child was doing. It’s natural. We love our kids and think about them. We think about our pets and love them too. So it would only be natural for you to wonder how your pet is doing at daycare. With an average cost of $20 a day, each day of DogVacay Daycare includes daily photo updates, along with 24/7 emergency support and $25,000 of vet insurance.
Daycare is also a good solution for dogs of all types. It provides socialization with other pups, which is great for puppies or newly adopted dogs. It provides exercise. For dogs with special health needs it gives you peace of mind knowing they get the special care that they might require. And last but far from least, it provides dogs of all types with human contact and attention that they deserve.
Here’s a brief video on DogVacay Daycare.

Wow this is truly amazing, I never heard of a dog daycare vacation before, but I have to check it out for my sweet lulu 😀
I love this! So much. The very next time we go on vacation, I’m doing this instead of boarding. Thanks!
This is so great! I feel so sad for dogs left alone all day! Then their owners wonder why they are so destructive! They need activity and fun! Thanks for sharing this doggy day care!
I feel bad for dogs left home alone all day too. This is a great program for them! Staying active will keep them healthy too!
We have kenneled our dog when we go away, but never just for a day. I bet my dog would like that, though.
This sounds like such a useful system. I’d feel much more at ease if my pets were in the care of a trusted sitter.
This is so great for some dogs! Mine would go insane. I’m glad I’m home with them daily. I think my one pup would love it as he’s always been a cling on to my side and hates when I leave. What a good idea!
I have to leave my pup at home alone often and it makes me sad. I would love to be able to take him somewhere and be able to know he is okay. I will have to check into doggy daycare!
I would love to have something like this in my area. I would take them up on it when taking short trips with my boyfriend. As now I have someone house sit and watch my dogs.
I think its amazing how much dog walkers and dog day care providers can make.
There is a doggie day care near me but it’s expensive. I hate leaving my Sophie girl home alone but I know all she does is sleep so I’m ok with that! LOL
I work from home so I’m here with Max all day. I can’t imagine him being home alone all day. I think daycare for dogs is an excellent idea.
To be honest, we usually take our dog on vacations. She has been on 4 vacations already. She loves it but this sounds like a great service to keep in mind.
I love doggy daycares. I have used them only once and it was a really great experience. 🙂
I remember my friend having to leave their dog in a dog daycare one time when they went on vacation. They sure make the lives of dog owners worry-free.
This is so lovely for those with furbabies. My mothers dog is always on her own during the day, she’d really benefit from something like this.
I normally let my dog stay with my mom when I’m out of town, but I’ll definitely keep them in mind, too. Thanks for the heads up!
This is a really great things for dog owners. I would imagine even though they aren’t people that they get bored and lonely during the day all alone.
Having dog is awesome but whenever you goon vacation, it is expensive. We always leave our dogs at the kennel when we have our vacation.
My dogs would love to go to a doggy daycare . I hate to leave them when i have to go out for more then a few hours.
Okay that would be so perfect for my pups! Thank you for sharing this ! it would be helpful when we go on trips!
This is an awesome idea for dogs indeed and they get to socialize with other dogs too. If I was gone all the time I would definitely use the Dog Vacay Daycare. Thanks for sharing.
An innovative concept that could be quite useful when one takes off for the day.
Super smart! We are getting a puppy soon and doggie daycare might be in his future. If we ever get the guts to leave him, lol.
That is awesome! I’m lucky to work from home so I’m with my dog all day but could see how it would be lonely for a dog whose owners work all day.
I’ll have to pass this information on to my dog owning family members! Its always hard to leave fur babies behind 🙁
It’s so important for dogs to be active and be able to exercise. I was surprised how reasonable it is!
They really have EVERYTHING for dogs, don’t they?!
