Lake Placid NY #PerfectDayADK
Last week I shared a little bit of background on Lake Placid, NY with you. This week I want to share just a small sampling of the things there are to do there. If you’re looking to have the perfect day, this would definitely be one place where that’s possible. Now some might worry that all of the activities at a “mountain resort” type of area such as Lake Placid would be super expensive. Not so. There are many things to do in Lake Placid that are budget-friendly, or better – free!
There are plenty of different sporting events and activities including hiking, mountaineering, hunting, skiing, ice skating and snow-shoeing. If you aren’t into the sports there are plenty of other things to do as well!
Things are hopping in mid-February with the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival running from February 10-15! This celebration is the longest running winter carnival in the East and features  parades, games, exhibits, celebrations, concerts, and more, all with a focus on family fun.
February closes out with the Lake Placid Nordic Festival. This festival is three days of ski clinics, demonstrations, tours, parties and more. The festival is suitable for both novice and experienced skiers, making it a great way for a family do share a fun winter activity!
February may be for Valentines but in Lake Placid the month of March is pretty sweet too! The Adirondak Maple Weekend takes place at the end of March. This is an opportunity for the family to learn about how maple syrup and other maple products are made, and try them too!
Spring starts to bloom with the annual Daffest. This is a community movement to plant one million daffodil bulbs. Each year the community celebrates the bulbs blooming with a fun filled festival.
And there’s already lots more events that are scheduled for summer and fall!
There’s something for everyone in Lake Placid. If you’re one of the approximately 60 million people that live within a day’s drive of the Adirondack region this is a great place to spend the day. If you live a bit farther away, or do live close but want a night away, you can stay at one of over 11,000 rental rooms in hotels, motels, inns and cottages, along with almost 12,000 campsites.
And don’t forget!

  1. What a great chance to win. I would love to visit Lake Placid. It sounds perfect for a couples getaway OR for a family vacation.

  2. Looks like a great place to visit. I have never seen snow so I would like it all. I think a dog sled ride would be a lot of fun.

  3. With hubby on the road away so much along with lots of volunteer time, a relaxing romantic evening perhaps by a fireplace would be something we always hope for. Then something steps in….

  4. The Maple Weekend sounds fun. I’ve read about, and seen snippets of bits about how it’s done, but if someone asked me, I couldn’t tell ya. I’d like to taste maple syrup fresh made and learn about it too… what better way than a weekend devoted to it? 🙂 The dog sled thing… yeah, that’d be cool to watch (or do!!) too. 🙂
