Jules Collage
Our cat Jules is amazing, and probably one of the two best cats that I have ever had. I’ve had many cats over the years so that’s saying a lot, especially considering I didn’t especially want him huh? I’d gone on a trip back in 2010. I came home to an announcement from hubby that he had a surprise for me. That surprise was Jules. He was just a tiny Siamese kitten back then, and he’d almost gotten run over after darting across a highway in front of my brother’s car. When my brother stopped to check that the kitten was ok the kitten jumped into the car. My brother didn’t want to just put it back out into the street and didn’t want to put it in a shelter. Hubby said we’d take it. And that’s how Jules got to be here. Anyway. he’s amazing. He loves each of us completely and differently.
Knowing that Jules is already four years old and knowing how much he means to us I want to do what I can to ensure his good health. Truthfully I’ve never put tons of thought into cat food. I buy the same food every couple of weeks and he eats it. When offered the opportunity to take the Purina ONE 28 Day Challenge I was intrigued.
Something to consider. “96% of cat owners say that in general, their cat is healthy, according to a recent survey by Wakefield Research for Purina ONE. But do they really know what that means? The signs that a cat is unhealthy are more difficult to spot than you might think. 76% of cat owners don’t know that cats sometimes purr when they’re unhappy, and 75% don’t know that a cat’s diet requires more protein than a dog’s diet. In addition, more than 1 in 4 (27%) don’t know that not eating can be a sign of sickness in cats.
How could I not be intrigued, knowing that I should see visible changes in my cat’s health, including eager eating, healthy energy, less waste, bright eyes, a shiny coat and clean teeth. Those are all good things! And so we accepted.
I had a number of varieties of Purine ONE Cat Food to choose from.

  • Chicken & Turkey Flavor: Formulated with real chicken as the #1 ingredient, blended with other high-quality protein sources, to help support strong muscles, including a healthy heart.
  • Hairball Formula: Made with a natural fiber blend that helps minimize hairballs.
  • Healthy Metabolism: Created with real turkey and L-Carnitine to help spayed or neutered cats maintain a healthy weight.
  • Indoor Advantage: Developed to help minimize hairballs and maintain a healthy weight.
  • Salmon & Tuna Flavor: Includes real salmon as the #1 ingredient, blended with other high-quality protein sources, to help support strong muscles, including a healthy heart.
  • Sensitive Systems: Developed to nourish sensitive skin and promote easy digestion.

In the end I decided to go with the Purine ONE Indoor Advantage. As Jules is a completely indoor cat and is never allowed outside he has been known to have the occasional hairball. If you’ve ever seen a cat’s hairball then you know they are gross and look nothing like hair, they look like something else completely. And it looks like the cat is so uncomfortable when he coughs them up. So if I can help decrease the amount of hairballs that Jules gets it’s a good thing for all of us.
I hope you’ll follow along while we participate in the Purina ONE 28-Day Challenge. Be sure to check back for updates on how Jules is doing on his new food.

  1. All we have in the house right now is a parakeet. So much easier than the dogs we used to have and we don’t have to clean up the back yard!

  2. We have a dog, a cockapoo who is 9 years old. She truly is our first child and beloved member of this family. She sleeps in between me & the hubs every night like our little hot water bottle!

    1. Debra – Dobby is in our bed most nights. Many nights he shares my pillow. Only if he’s feeling very playful and won’t stay in bed does he go in the crate. he’s still too young to be left to roam the house all night while we sleep.

  3. Aww look at your kittie! I had one cat that we rescued when I was younger but she was too wild so we had to let her go. Now I have two goldfish.
