How did your body feel when you were pregnant? All in all I was blessed through both pregnancies. I had no morning sickness or nausea. I had two things that bothered me with both pregnancies. I had heartburn. And the muscles in my neck, back and feet were always sore. And they stayed sore. I had no massages, that’s just not hubby’s style. My best relief was a heating pad, and that didn’t usually help much.
The Woodhouse Day Spa of Summit, NJ recognizes that while motherhood is a miraculous time, it’s also a time of great physical discomfort for many. And for some, even mentally stressful. They have created package of services just for mothers-to-be. Here’s more about the treatments.
Woodhouse Day Spa

Mothers-to-be await the most miraculous gift as a human; giving birth. However during this special time, extreme discomfort, and a whirlwind of emotions take full control, creating feelings of hopelessness. Many of these women seek specialists, others get lost in remedies, and most involve themselves in countless activities to either completely avoid or cope with their pain, inadvertently adding more stress to their everyday lives.
Woodhouse Day Spa Massage
In December of 2013, The Woodhouse Day Spa in Summit, New Jersey, opened its doors offering many different treatments, but one in particular designed for the purposes of pregnant women. Since opening, the spa is pleased to invite these women in to find the relief they have been looking for. The package is called the “Mother-To-Be,” a series of spa services specially designed to carry pregnant women through the pains of pregnancy.
The Prenatal Relief Massage is the first service they provide, which alleviates muscular stress one has through each trimester. The following treatment is known as the Woodhouse Introductory Facial, where the esthetician cleanses the face, leaving the skin with a natural glow. Lastly, the Organic Sugar Scrub Pedicure, promotes rejuvenation while quieting and soothing swollen and tired feet.
Woodhouse Day Spa Aromatherapy
After the treatments have been performed, women are directed to the Quiet Room, another unique feature of The Woodhouse Day Spa. The Quiet Room is a tranquil and inviting space, where guests are encouraged to continue their relaxation. In this room you will find guests sitting on couches in luxurious robes, sipping on tea, while natural aromas fill their senses and bask in the air. The Woodhouse Day Spa in Summit invites in women to experience “Mother-to-be,” the new way to cope with the pains of pregnancy.

I tend to carry all of my stress in my neck, back and shoulders. I’ve only had one massage and enjoyed it greatly. I’d really like to get another. When I went they asked me questions about types of massage, I wasn’t quite sure what to answer. Hot stone, deep tissue, Swedish, and a few others too. Guess that means I’ll have to save my money and try them all to find out which is my favorite…

Have you ever had a massage? Was it for aches or pains, or maybe stress?  Did it help you feel better? Any tips for people who haven’t had one or maybe have had a bad experience? If you haven’t had one, what’s holding you back? I’d really love to know, please leave a comment!

  1. I’ve had a few of massages and most of them were really great. One of them I had a gift card for and didn’t really like the place. I’d love to go to a spa and get a massage soon!

  2. I love massage especially if it is done by a professional therapist! I haven’t heard of Woodhouse Day Spa before, but your post tells a great story about it. I hope I can get in that place one of these days. 🙂

  3. I’ve never had a professional massage. I’d like to though, especially if I was on a beachside hotel balcony in Hawaii, but I digress. 😉

  4. Two actually. One was a gift from the best daughter in the world; the other a prize. It relaxed me as it soothed my muscles everywhere. I felt great after it for a week or so. Check pricing, reputation, and the type of clients who frequent the place. I am dreaming of another massage enough to start budgeting for one.

  5. My body NEEDS a day at the spa. It’s been far too long but I have to say during pregnancy they were also a godsend.

  6. My husband actually bought me a massage gift card, but I feel ackward going, though I do enjoy going to the chiropractor! Those aches and pains go away as soon as I get adjusted. I wish I could afford to go everyday!

  7. I hated both of my pregnancies! I was so miserable throughout both, I would have loved going to the Woodhouse Day Spa for a little pampering!

  8. Um, yeah, I was sick each and every day with my first pregnancy and my second not as much, but developed gestational diabetes and a really nasty skin dermatitis. I really was miserable though both. Something like this would have been a fantastic treat. I have never had a professional massage. Why? I don’t really know. Cost/money or lack thereof? No free time? Don’t want a stranger touching me? Self conscious? All of the above. Not that it doesn’t sound tempting, or ultra pampering and indulgent, I just have never taken the time for myself to get one.

  9. I’m actually an easy pregnancy person too but I did get a little excited with the first one. It’s nice that this spa has created a special services menu for pregnant women. It would be easier to direct someone on what a good gift would be by hinting a t this place.

  10. I should have had this when I was pregnant. I hated being pregnant, it wasn’t joyous for me. I hated the mood swings, the having zero energy and it just was awful for me, even though health wise I was fine. That’s why when my fiance and I mentioned would we ever want to have a child together later on in life I said NO WAY, but if I had a service like this – maybe we would have survived a decision to have a baby. But no we are done with babies anyways. His two and my three are plenty 😉
