MY THOUGHTS
I’m starting to struggle with ideas for my 8 year old’s Easter basket. I was offered to try out the Hide ’em and Hatch ’em Eggs this year, which made me happy because it seemed like something that was right up her ally. Plus, they put a cute spin on the traditional Easter egg hunt with eggs full of change or candy – these eggs are actually interactive and provide your child with some cute friends to play with!
The instructions are pretty simple and I had no problem hatching my own Easter friends. Put the egg in a container filled with room temperature water and the eggshell will begin to slowly break open over the next several hours.
The instructions say 6-12, but I’ll admit I didn’t see enough progress after about 8 hours, so I ‘guided’ my hatchlings along by gently squeezing the shell. Sure enough, they popped open. Once the animals hatch, you dump out the shells and old water and then add new water. Leave the animals in the water to grow more, or you can play with your animals right then. Basically, they’ll grow bigger in the water and shrink when left out, so it’s up to you when you want to ‘re-grow’ them!
I had fun with these myself, and they reminded me of similar shrink-and-grow toys I had when I was a child. I will definitely be remembering them for future Easter basket stuffers!
