Guess what hubby and I did on top of the kitchen table? We emptied out the contents of our chest freezer onto it! See, I went looking for something for dinner and one or two things got in my way. I placed them on the table and he came in and thought I was emptying the freezer so he just started helping me empty it. We found meat in the bottom of the chest freezer that was dated 2006. We found a pie down there too that was dated 12/2007. We found one package of meat that we weren’t sure what it was because it was so freezer burned and covered with frost that we couldn’t see it. Damn! I can actually see what’s in there now. See for yourself.
We also emptied out the freezer half of our side by side fridge. In there I found a piece of ice cream birthday cake from about a year and a half ago. Between the two we filled a kitchen bag with stuff that had to be tossed.Then, before we put the good food back in hubby got rid a lot of the frost that had built up.
I’m so bad, I haven’t cleaned either of these out in a long time. Well, you can sort of guess how long, can’t you! When I put the food into the freezer I was saving food. When I threw it out today I might have been saving our lives! LOL. I’d love to hear what weird things you’ve found in your freezer or fridge when cleaning it out.

I took a turkey breast out of my freezer last week to defrost. I was going to put in in the crockpot the next day. I had visions of leftover turkey sandwiches for the following day. It wasnt until I was ready to put it in the crockpot that I realized it was from December 2007. Unfortunately, we had pizza that night and there were no turkey sandwiches. I guess I too am guilty of not cleaning out my freezer often enough.
I’ve cleaned out my freezer to find years old mystery meat too! I haven’t actually cleaned my freezer out in the last six months or so though…so I’d probably better get around to it…lol.
